High-Precision 3D Scanning of an Aluminum Engine Crankcase

In this project, we performed a high-resolution 3D scan of an aluminum engine crankcase using our non-contact 3D measurement system. Both sides of the part were scanned individually to capture fine surface details and complex geometries. The two scans were accurately aligned and merged using optical markers, ensuring a seamless and highly accurate result. The final STL mesh is completely watertight, making it ready for downstream applications such as Reverse Engineering, 3D printing, or simulation. The entire processing workflow was handled using the 3D scanning software, with Geomagic Design X used exclusively to align the mesh with the XY reference plane, optimizing the model’s orientation for further CAD operations. This workflow highlights the power of structured light scanning combined with professional post-processing software for industrial applications. Ideal for automotive part digitization, quality inspection, and engineering analysis.
